My life has changed a lot since I joined the CKTV Media Class! The biggest change would be all the great and awesome experiences that I get. I get a lot of experience with working with all of this expensive video equipment and learning so much a filmmaking, but it doesn't stop there. Think back to the first time you have been to the Mainland... You are probably thinking of that summer or winter vacation with your family. The first time that I have been to the mainland would be with the CKTV Media Class. My first trip to STN in the year 2013. We traveled to Los Angeles that year and went to all these cool amusement parks and we even went to Hollywood. Our class even got to go to the set of Shake It Up. I GOT TO TAKE SELFIES WITH FLYNN, DUCE, AND TYNKA! Sadly the pictures got deleted after I decided to reset my phone for no reason. But it was still fun! Its like a one in a lifetime experience!
I also made some of my best friends in the Media Class. Classmates that I have barely even talked to were now my best of friends! You tend to become close friends with people in the CKTV Media Class. Usually you cant even make friends with people in other grade levels because they are usually separated for most for the school day. But now, you are friends with students from all grades. I mean, just in a couple of months, you will be staying in the same hotel room with a couple of your classmates, and even share a bathroom. So since we will soon be sharing bathrooms, its nice to at least become friends with them. But you become more than friends. You become a family. The CKTV Ohana!
I have also learned many life skills in the media class. Sure we may learn how to edit a video and how to use a camera, but thats only 20% of what we learn. We learn so much about meeting deadlines, working together with others, paying attention to details, and how to work under stress. There are so many things that you learn in the class that you can apply in real life. Imagine if you didn't join the CKTV Media Class. What would your life be like. Most of you would probably get most of your free time back. You could stay home all weekend playing video games or watching TV the entire day knowing that you don't have to do any extra school work. You could go home when ever you want to. You don't need to stay back at school to finish a radio or get your video turned in. Your life would be easy. But the class give you a challenge and the feeling you get when you finish a project is the best feeling in the world!
Overall, this class has changed my life for the better! It not only changed my life, but also my parents life. We weren't usually involved with school activities, but now were doing fundraisers, traveling to the mainland, taking part in competitions, driving us all over the island to film interviews and b-roll, and even acting in our videos. It may be hard, you may want to cry at times but it makes you a better person. Everything you do in the class will get you ready for adulthood. So when you feel like quitting the class, think about all the fun and experiences you will be missing out on. The worst part about the class is that you need to leave the CKTV Ohana when you graduate middle school.
