Hey guys! I know some of you might be saying, "Huh?" after reading the title. But its true. Me and Micah are finished with our 3rd quarter project. However, we didn't create a PSA like most of you guys did. We created a video for Kipu Ranch Adventures! Most of you should already know that me and Micah also created a Happy Music Video for the Kauai Visitors Bureau annual meeting. I guess the owner of Kipu Ranch Adventures was there at the meeting and was interested with the music video we made. So he asked Mr.M if a couple of our students could create a video for Kipu Ranch Adventures. He wanted to show the video at his annual company Christmas party an have the video more of a Mahalo Video for the employes working there. Making the video was a lot of fun. We got to go to the ranch and film a lot of the stuff at the training area and the front office. The Co-Owner also drove us around the property and brought us to all these different checkpoints of the tour and film some of the other tours going on. It was really exciting going off road at 30 mph. We went back to the ranch many times getting interviews and b-roll. I really liked how the video turned out. I'll try and get the video posted as soon as possible.
Hey guys! While most of you are working hard on your 3rd quarter PSA's, me and Micah are doing a different kind of project. Some of you may know that for our project, me and Micah are making a video for Kipu Ranch Adventures. Kipu Ranch Adventures is a ATV tour. The owner of the ranch was at the KVB Luncheon where we showed our "Happy" music video. The owner seemed to be interested in the video, so he asked us if we could create a "Thank You Video" for the employes to be shown at their annual new years party. Me and Micah happily took on the job. I am glad to inform you that the video has made a lot of progress. We are very close to finishing the video. We have 90% left to finish up. The showcase of the video will be on Thursday so we are trying to quickly get the video done. I'll keep you updated on how our video is going!
Hey guys! Most of you attended our very first STN Practice. Overall I think it was a very very great success for only our first STN Practice. We may have had a few flaws here and there but it was still great. I was on the Spot Feature Team. We had 2 hours to find a character and interview them with b-roll and voice overs and 3 hours to edit the 1 1/2 minute video. Kaden and Kolten were on my team. I thought we were a great team but I'm sure that there were many things that our video could have improved upon.
Me, Kolten, and Kaden made a very great team. I really believed that we had many things to contribute to the team and the video. Me and Kaden were on the Spot Feature team last year so that means we have some experience with this competition. We now have to teach Kolten about the competition and get him ready to lead next years Spot Feature Team. I really believe that Kolten will be able to lead next years team with no problem as long as he continues to learn. We all have many things to contribute to the team, wether it's advice, extra equipment, or just helping out. Everyone has a role in the team.
The topic for our first STN Practice was "Do Over". If you could go back in time and redo anything, what would you change. We interviewed Jezlene and she a had a very interesting story about bullying. We had 2 hours to film interviews and b-roll and 3 hours to edit the video. The part that I felt we could have improved most upon would be our b-roll. It had nice lighting and was in focus but it didn't really match what she was talking about in her interview. Making the b-roll match is one of the things we could improve next time.
Overall, I think our first practice went really well! There are many things that we could improve but I'm feeling really confident in my team. We all have lots of things to contribute and we work really well together. We do our best not to fool around and we get work done effeciently. Usually we finish our rough cut of our video in 2 hours and then we add some final touches. But it's also good to have a rough video already exported an hour from the deadline just in case our final video has some problems exporting. It's never happened before to me but it's always good to play it safe.
Well I can't wait for our next practice. I'm very confident that everyone will all make improvments wether it's just working more as a team or improving their shots. We all aren't perfect and we all need to practice to become better. We can't be perfect, but it's certainly something to strive for. I really believe that me, Kolten, and Kaden did a great job for our first practice and we are ready to make it even better. So until next time, bye!
Hey guys! I can't believe it, but this will be my last blog for the year of 2014!!! I'm so excited for the new year! Here comes 2015!!! But before we can move onto the new year, we gotta finish 2014. That means that we have our second quarter projects that will be due in 2 days. That is the case for most of you, but for me and Micah, the quarter has already finished! We finished our Music Video. We just showed the video last Thursday at the Kauai Beach Resort. It was a huge success. So all I can say that this quarter has been very stressful and very exciting!
Hey guys! Have you ever heard of the movie, Guardians of the Galaxy? Well if you haven't, it's about a movie that follows a group of space prisoners who team up, escape from prison, and save the universe! In the beginning of the movie, the main characters are all chasing and fighting each other so they can get a hold of this special mineral that can wipe out a planet. One of them is trying to steal it and sell it, one wants to take it and give it to their master, and the other just wants to capture one of the other main characters for a bounty award. After they all get arrested for fighting in public, they are sent to this intergalactic prison. Then the main characters compromise, become a team, and escape from prison to hunt down the evil ruler on another planet who stole the mineral. They want to stop him from using it to destroy the world. I really don't want to tell you too much so go and watch it your self. It's a really great movie. The thing that I lived most about the movie would be the story, it's funny, full of action, very suspenseful, and also very sad. The creators of the movie did a great job in creating an emotional bond between the characters and the audience. I have never cried during a movie but this movie got a little tear out of me at the end. The story also seemed to follow the plot outline that we learned from that movie director from Oahu. So go ahead and check out the trailer then watch the movie.
Happy New Years!!! I hope everyone had an awesome New Years because the year is already off to a great start! New projects, new goals, and sometimes a new you! But it's also time to reflect on some improvements that we have made in the past year. One of the improvements that I worked on is to shoot better sequences. Another improvment that I worked on was getting work done faster. When ever I start to relax during a project, I tend to say "it's ok, I'll do it later". And that's not good. But luckily I improved on both of those goals. And it's a great way to start off the new year of 2015!
One of my goals was to shoot better sequences. I know that shooting sequences are very basic but sometimes I tend to forget about certain thing. Shooting sequences was one of those things. With second quarter already finished and third quarter projects almost finished for me and Micah, I can tell you that filming sequences come automatically now. I don't have to think twice about it when I go filming. This has helped me out a lot during the editing process knowing that I have many shots to choose from that are already in sequences.
I also worked on working faster. There's a difference between working faster and working more efficiently. I wanted to work more effeciently. That's where you work on a project for a while and make lots of progress while paying attention to detail. I feel like I have improved a lot since the beginning of the year. I learned a lot about what waiting till the last minute can do to you the hard way. Me and Micah has only a month to finish the entire music video after not doing much work for the first half of the quarter. But luckily we finished the video on time for the KVB Party and they seemed to enjoy it.
So since I met my goals, I have to come up with some new goals to achieve in 4th quarter. I guess one of my new goals would be to tell a better story. Finding a way to tell a story is something that I need to work more on. The story of every video is the most important part. I can't think of another thing that I can improve upon. So if you know of something I can improve on, then write it in the comments below. I'm sure there are many things I can do to improve upon.
So that's about it! We just had our first STN Practice this Saturday and I think all the teams did good for their first practice. So good luck in 3rd quarter!
